Marea examines the idea of sanctuary in the context of migration in both humans and animals and, in particular, how the search for sanctuary is often an act driven by necessity and courage. Flotsam found on local beaches was imersed in baths of milk alongside other materials such as toys, leaf matter, cloth, and spices. Then patterns based on migratory pathways were ‘drawn’ into the liquid and the items photographed as they moved, often partially submerged. The resulting images were then inverted in post-processing.
